Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)

People usually spend most of the time at homes, offices, and other indoor environments. Every minute we breathe the air could contribute adverse health effects if the quality of air is poor. Check your indoor air quality regularly is the key step to ensure cleanliness of the air.

 

Since the launch of the IAQ Certification Scheme in 2003, the World Health Organization (WHO) has published two IAQ guidelines in 2009 and 2010 respectively on dampness and mould, and selected pollutants (viz. formaldehyde (HCHO), radon, carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), benzene, naphthalene, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene). Taking into account local circumstances and the practicability of adopting the latest WHO’s IAQ guidelines, the IAQ objectives of the IAQ Certification Scheme adopted since 2003 (“Old IAQ Objectives”) have been revised for implementation starting from 1 July 2019 (the “New IAQ Objectives“)

Walkthrough Inspection

Our competent examiner can conduct a walkthrough inspection of premises/building to check if there are any IAQ problems, including odour, ventilation system, exhaust air flow system and unsanitary mechanical room, or trash / stored chemicals in mechanical room, etc. Remedial assessment is also carried out to ensure the IAQ meet the standards.

IAQ Certification

To improve the indoor air quality (IAQ) and promote public awareness of the importance of IAQ, the HKSAR Government has implemented an IAQ Management Programme. A core element of the Programme is to launch a voluntary IAQ Certification Scheme for Offices and Public Places. For details, please refer to web-site of IAQ Information Centre.
