Plasticizers Analysis in Food

The plasticizer (phthalate) issue in Taiwan has aroused public and the Government concern on these food harmful substances.



Plasticizers are synthetic additives which added to plastic to increase the flexibility and durability of the products. Presence of plasticizers may due to the migration of food packaging materials or use of plasticizer-containing raw materials. 

塑化劑是人工合成的添加劑,以增加產品的靈活性和耐久性。食物裡的塑化劑可由包裝材料遷移 污染或使用含有塑化劑的原材料。


Researches suggest that large doses of plasticizers such as DEHP were found to affect the liver and kidney as well as the reproduction and development of experimental animals. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified DEHP as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B).



Under the World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines of drinking water quality, the safety tolerable daily intake (TDI) level of DEHP is 0.025 mg/kg of body weight.

In Hong Kong, the Expert Committee on Food Safety has set the following limits in food:

  • DEHP - bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate - do not exceed 1.5 ppm

  • DBP - dibutyl phthalate - do not exceed 0.3 ppm

  • DINP - di-isononyl phthalate - do not exceed 9 ppm

根據世界衛生組織(WHO)的飲用水水質指引,DEHP每日的安全攝取量(TDI)為 每公斤體重0.025毫克。


  •  「鄰苯二甲酸二(2-乙基己酯)」(DEHP)-  不可超出百萬分之一點五 (1.5 ppm)

  •  「鄰苯二甲酸二正丁酯」(DBP)-  不可超出百萬分之零點三 (0.3 ppm)

  •  「鄰苯二甲酸二異壬酯」(DINP)- 不可超出百萬分之九 (9 ppm)
